HUMAN HEREDITY
2
HUMAN HEREDITY Many human traits are inherited by the action of dominant and recessive genes, although other traits are determined through more complicated gene interactions. THE HUMAN ORGANISM 46 chromosomes contain 6 billion nucleotide pairs of DNA Gametes: reproductive cells (sperm & egg) Zygote: sperm & egg unite: fertilized egg Of the 46 chromosomes, two are sex chromosomes X & Y Autosomes: The other 44 chromosomes Simple inheritance occurs on the genes of the chromosomes HUMAN TRAITS Does the phenotype always rely on the genotype???? The influence of environment on gene expression is important, but gene expression through environmental conditions is not inherited
