2 About 1 in 100 people are diagnosed with Schizophrenia.

3 Symptoms of Schizophrenia
Disorganized thinking/cannot filter information. Disturbed perceptions/delusions (false beliefs) Inappropriate actions Inappropriate or missing emotions (Flat Effect) Auditory hallucinations Incoherent speech (Clang Effect)

4 Three Types

5 Paranoid Schizophrenia
Diagnosed through the presence of numerous and systemized delusions. Delusions are usually “someone is out to get me” or of grandeur Auditory and visual hallucinations accompany delusions.

6 Disorganized/Catatonic Schizophrenia
Variety of bizarre symptoms. Movement is disordered or waxy flexiblity (holding one position) Often regress to childlike behaviors. Neglect themselves… stop bathing, combing their hair, or using the bathroom. Disorganized speech is apparent.

7 Undifferentiated Any one who does not fit into the other categories.
May have delusions or motor disorders, but not to the extent that he or she is considered Paranoid or Catatonic.

8 Symptom/manifestation categories for Schizophrenia.
There are positive and negative symptoms of schizophrenia (this does not mean “good” and “bad” as you may be thinking...) POSITIVE SYMPTOMS+ = presence symptoms that healthy people do not experience that are present in schizophrenia (ex= auditory hallucinations) NEGATIVE SYMPTOMS- = behaviors that are not present in the schizophrenic person, that are present in healthy persons (ex= flat effect). 771C379A652D&blnFromSearch=1&productcode=US
