2 Dec. 1777 – Washington’s army consisted of around 12,000 -14,000men

3 After a series of defeats in Pennsylvania - Washington takes his army to it’s winter camp at Valley Forge

4 Valley Forge - It was a horrible winter
- lack of food and clothing - extreme weather - No battle ever took place here - The only enemy was cold and hunger

5 TO THIS DAY, VALLEY FORGE IS REMEMBERED FOR SUFFERING AND COURAGE

As the Continentals spent a horrible winter at Valley Forge the British spent a pleasant winter in Philadelphia in peoples homes and businesses
