1 From Cells to Organisms
A Review By: Gina Rochell

2 What is the smallest living
thing called? It’s called a cell! Here’s a great video to watch on cells! You don’t want to miss it (Watch it before you go any further!)!

3 Parts of an animal cell! This is the brain of the cell. It directs
all its activities. This is the jelly like substance inside the cell. These give the cells energy. They release energy in the cell. This holds the cell together and separates it from its surroundings. These store food and water in the cell.

4 Parts of a plant cell! cytoplasm cell membrane vacuoles nucleus
This holds the cell together and separates it from its surroundings. This is the jelly like substance inside the cell. cytoplasm cell membrane These store food and water in the cell. vacuoles This is the brain of the cell. It directs all its activities. These give the cells energy. They release energy in the cell. nucleus mitochondria

5 Parts of a plant cell! chloroplasts cell wall
This makes food for the plant cell. chloroplasts This supports and protects the plant cell! cell wall Remember, a plant cell has two other parts that an animal cell does not have! What are they?

6 Here’s a rap to help you learn the parts of a cell!
You don’t want to miss it (Watch it before you go any further!)!

7 how cells are organized. It starts with the smallest
There are levels as to how cells are organized. It starts with the smallest living unit (cell).

8 circulatory system a whole living thing

10 What are tiny living things called?

11 They are called..... microorganisms microorganisms microorganisms

12 Microorganisms must be looked at under a microscope!

13 Some microorganisms are____________ and some are _____________.
helpful Some microorganisms are____________ and some are _____________. harmful bacteria Bacteria can be both helpful and harmful. helpful The bacteria in yogurt is _________. The bacteria in raw meats and eggs (E. coli and Salmonella) can be ________. harmful

14 Some bacteria in our body can be
helpful because it breaks down the food we eat.

15 Another kind of microorganism is _____.
mold Another kind of microorganism is _____. Mold is a fungi. Mold on bread or food is not good for you. Mold on blue cheese is okay for you.

16 Fungi is a decomposer. It breaks things down. Mold breaks things down.
Fungi is good though! Fungi is a decomposer. It breaks things down. Mold breaks things down. Yeast is also a fungi. It can be helpful. It makes bread rise.

17 Organisms can be... organism with just 1 cell organism made up
of more than 1 cell

18

19 An amoeba is a ____________ organism. “Uni” means one. unicellular
So, an amoeba is made up of only one cell!

20 A frog is a ____________ organism because it is made
up of many cells. multicellular multicellular multicellular multicellular multicellular multicellular multicellular

21 cell organism unicellular multicellular
What is the smallest living thing called? organism What is another name for a “living thing?” unicellular What is a one-celled organism called? amoeba What is an organism made up of lots of cells called? person multicellular What are the parts of a cell called (the inside objects)? What releases energy in the cell? organelles mitochondria What stores the food and water in the cell? vacuoles What is the jelly-like substance inside the cell? cytoplasm

22 organism system organ What is the outside of the cell
called? It holds the cell together. cell membrane What controls the cells activities? nucleus What makes food in the plant cell and gives it its green color? chloroplasts What is the outer covering of a plant cell called (it supports the cell)? cell wall tissue organism system organ cell smallest largest system organism organ tissue cell

23 a unicellular organism
mold What is a fungi that is a decomposer? yeast helpful harmful Bacteria can be _____________ or ________________. What is a helpful bacteria? bacteria in yogurt What is a harmful bacteria? bacteria on raw meat or uncooked eggs What is an amoeba? a unicellular organism

24 Now you are an expert on CELLS!
