The Importance of Having a Correct Address and Phone # on File
****Very Important Notice**** The Importance of Having a Correct Address and Phone # on File Student will not receive the letter with scheduled courses for the upcoming year; the letter will be returned to the school Any returned mail received will cause the student’s file to be flagged. An attempt will be made to contact the parent via phone call/ If the address is not updated by the end of June, the system will automatically drop the student and re-enrollment will be required with proof of residence. Skyward Student Access
NEW for Skyward Student Access Students will enter all courses Please read the step-by-step instructions for entering courses online (The step-by-step instructions will be posted on the Madison High School webpage under Counselor Corner) FEBRUARY 15th is the deadline for students to enter courses Students should print out their course requests and keep on file Students should review course selections again in April and make sure courses are correct If a student has questions regarding their course selections in the Student Portal, the student should contact the counselor

Course Card Timeline All incoming 8th grade students will receive a course selection card from their middle school counselor. Current 9th – 11th grade students will receive their course selection card during counselor presentations in the Ag Commons Area through their English class. Current Sophomores: Wednesday, January 23 Current Freshmen: Friday, January 25 Current Juniors: Wednesday, January 30 Obtain a parent signature and signatures from any coaches/directors/teachers of programs that require approval. (Look for symbols) Deadlines for returning Course Selection Card to English teachers: Incoming 8th grade students: Date set by the middle schools Current Sophomores: Wednesday, January 30 Current Freshmen: Friday, February 1 Current Juniors: Wednesday, February 6

Course Selections/Changes
Students should plan their course selections based on their endorsement(s).—See handout Course priority will be given to students based on a student’s endorsement and grade level. The deadline to enter courses online is FEBRUARY 15th Both the student and parent should understand that courses selected are contingent upon staffing, scheduling of courses and course availability. First choice selections are not guaranteed.

OnRamps NEISD will partner with the University of Texas at Austin to offer students the opportunity to earn college credit while in high school through an innovative Dual Enrollment program called OnRamps. Dual Enrollment students will have the opportunity to earn college credit from a UT faculty member and high school credit from their high school teacher. OnRamps courses will transfer to any public Texas college or university. Courses offered are Pre-AP Pre-calculus and AP Physics I

The major differences between Dual Enrollment and Dual Credit are: Students do not have testing requirements for admission to the Dual Enrollment courses; Dual Credit students have testing requirements. Students choose to have grade reported on college transcript. The OnRamps Dual Enrollment Program allows high school students to experience college academic rigor by taking actual college exams created by a UT professor. More information coming soon!!!

Agriscience Magnet Program Director – Doak Stewart
Counselor– Laurie Guerrero The AMP is available to NEISD high school students with an interest in studying agriculture science. The AMP employs a performance-based enrollment process that evaluates students on interest, academic progress, school attendance, and discipline record. It is required that students actively participate in the FFA student organization while in the AMP. Students must maintain academic eligibility, satisfactory attendance, and satisfactory conduct while in the AMP.

The Endorsement is the area of specialized study to include the following:
STEM Arts & Humanities Public Service Multidisciplinary Studies Business & Industry Students may earn more than one endorsement A Program of Study consists of a series of courses grouped together by interest or skill set; this allows students to focus on a specific career pathway Students may change their Endorsement or Program of study and should meet with their counselor any time a change is being considered. (We recommend that students make any changes prior to the Junior year) Endorsement options are subject to change based on staffing allocations for the school year

NEW courses for AP Art History **NEW COURSE** - This course covers college level Art History and will prepare students to take the AP exam in Art History for college credit. This course will also satisfy a Fine Arts credit in high school. Who should take this course? No Prerequisite. It is suggested that students who are motivated to get college credit by taking an AP Exam take this course. Students who are interested in looking at art and understanding it in a historical context. . Art II Pre-AP **NEW COURSE** - This course will cover a range of 2D and 3D advanced studio techniques to build student portfolios and prepare students to do well in AP Art. Students will continue building a portfolio and be encouraged to enter into contests. Requires purchase of an art kit. Who should take this course? Prerequisite - Art I Credit. Students who have a serious interest in art, have an Art I or Pre-AP Art I credit and did well in those courses. Students who think they may take AP Studio Art in the future and want to start building their skills for their art portfolio.

Dual Credit Art Appreciation **NEW COURSE** This course with earns students credit for ARTS 1301 at the college level and presents an introduction to purposes and processes in the visual arts. There will be critical thinking and application of those skills in a visual arts context. This course will also satisfy a Fine Arts credit in high school. There is no prerequisite. Who should take this course? No Prerequisite. Students who are curious about art and want to earn college credit while taking a course at Madison High School should take this course. Students who are willing to try making art and willing to think about art critically. Lab fee required; Must take the TSI and enroll in ACCD by deadline. Studio Courses Open to all grade levels:
Art I - for the entry level artist who wants to learn about art, earn their fine arts credit, and make art. Art I Pre-AP - students who are serious about art and/or students who enjoyed art in middle school and plan on continuing art in high school are encouraged to take this course.
