High School 101 I know…I cant believe it either!!!!!

2 Endorsements HB 5 requires all 8th graders to select their HS Endorsement. What is an Endorsement? It is a targeted area of study. Think MAJOR in college. What are the 5 Endorsements? Pg 6 Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) – includes courses directly related to science, including environmental science, technology, computer science, engineering, and advanced mathematics. Alg. 2, Chemistry, Physics required. Business and Industry – includes courses directly related to database management, information technology, communications, accounting, finance, marketing, graphic design, architecture, construction, welding, logistics, automotive technology, agricultural science, and heating, ventilation, and air-conditioning. Public Services – includes courses directly related to health sciences and occupations, education and training, law enforcement, and culinary arts and hospitality. Arts and Humanities – includes courses directly related to political science, world languages, cultural studies, English literature, history, and fine arts. Multidisciplinary Studies – allows a student to select courses from the curriculum of each endorsement area described above and earn credits in a variety of advanced courses from multiple content areas sufficient to complete the Distinguished Level of Achievement under the Foundation program. Portal to select their Endorsement opens January 28th and closes February 8th. Instructions provided- requires student and parent action.

3 Pathways An Endorsement is the umbrella to the pathways offered at each high school. Each HS offers different pathways. The pathway your child chooses will determine the electives they need to take in HS. Copies of each HS pathways are at the table and available in the HS Course Selection Handbook (CSH) on pg. 7. 4 Graduation PLans Refer to handout.
Foundation only- this can only be chosen with permission. EXCEPTION Foundation + Endorsement Distinguish Level of Achievement- all top 10% must be on this plan to gain automatic acceptance. Requires 4 credits in Math (Algebra 2) and 4 credits in Science. Performance Acknowledgements Certification- Nationally or Internationally recognized industry certification. Outstanding Performance- Dual Credit Course work, Bilingualism/Biliteracy, AP Exam, SAT or ACT.

7 PAP or ON-level??? Your child's GPA determines their class rank.
DC courses Earn college credit during the HS school day. Require tuition Earn one DAP measure for each DC course taken with a B or above. Students must pass TSI. CSH pg. 19 AP courses AP courses require an AP exam at the end of course. Scored 1 to 5, 3 and above earns a DAP measure.
