4. WINS Backbone Upgrade
The core of the WINS Network at the DCIU was two Nortel 8100’s.
Passport 8100 Manufacture Discontinue
Manufacture Discontinue Notice Date: 01-August-2005
Last Time Order Date: 30 September 2005
Last Ship Date: 31 October 2005
Manufacture Discontinue (MD) Date: 31 October 2005
Last Supported Software Release: 3.7
End of Life (EOL) Date: 30 September 2010
Both 8100’s had all hardware replaced on July 22nd with 8600 hardware ($37,467.75).
Split MLT’s implemented providing 2 GIG to each District.
No Spanning Tree.
Loops at individual districts will no longer snow ball.
No End of Life projected on 8600’s.

5. Fortinet Upgrades
During the week of July 19th, we upgraded the remainder Fortinets to the
latest version v4.0,build0279, (MR2 Patch 1)
This interface is much different and has required some relearning.
Not sure if we like the new interface yet?
MR2 Patch 2 is out and has performance improvements to GUI.
We have not yet done this upgrade to anyone.

7. New ISP - Comcast SNIP connection currently 100 Mb.
SNIP went bankrupt and was purchased by NetCarrier.
Widener contract ending July 1, 2011.
Dave Cava, formerly SNIP sales rep, now with Comcast.
Comcast proposal same price for 300 Mb.
Disaster Recovery Plan:
Terminating circuit in Kirkbride building.
Diverse route, not using Sunesys fiber.
Lawyers are working out contract as we speak….
