8 Summative Assessment for Grades 3-8 in ELA and Mathematics
Nevada Administration Training Sessions 2/25/2019 DRC Slide 10 Summative Assessment for Grades 3-8 in ELA and Mathematics Test content provided by Smarter Balanced. INSIGHT (test engine) & eDIRECT (student management) provided by DRC. Each student must participate in four test sessions (two per content area): ELA Computer Adaptive Test (CAT) – may be given over multiple days ELA Performance Task (PT) – 2 parts; 2 testing periods; 1 test ticket Math Computer Adaptive Test (CAT) – may be given over multiple days Math Performance Task (PT) – 1 part; 1 testing period Students with accommodations that require paper testing will take “fixed form” tests in place of the computer adaptive tests. Test sessions/parts may be scheduled and administered in any order. Students receive 1 test ticket for each test session (4 total for Summative). Jan-Feb 2019

9 Summative Assessment Types of Test Questions
Nevada Administration Training Sessions 2/25/2019 DRC Slide 11 Summative Assessment Types of Test Questions Multiple-choice response: four response options with only one correct answer. Multiple-select response: multiple-response options with one or more correct answers. The test question may not always tell how many options should be chosen (this is an item design feature that provides information for scoring). Technology enhanced: questions that may include drag-and-drop, graphing, drop-down menus, and matching. Written-response questions (short, 1-2 sentences): questions that will require the student to answer by typing his/her response in the space given. ELA only Listening: students will listen to a passage and then respond to questions about the passage. Extended written-response, PT part 2 (essay): student will be prompted to produce an on-demand (time-limited) writing sample related to a reading passage (students read the same passage in both parts 1 & 2 of the ELA PT). ELA PT Part 2 – Extended Written-Response --On-demand writing is time-limited --Students use a version of the writing process in which the student is their own editor and reviser, there is no opportunity for feedback. 11 CAT/Computer Adaptive Tests Summative (SBAC)
Nevada Administration Training Sessions 2/25/2019 DRC Slide 13 CAT/Computer Adaptive Tests Summative (SBAC) Computer adaptive tests (CAT) are personalized to the individual student taking the test. The CAT testing engine delivers test questions based on the students response to the previous item—correct or incorrect. This means the test can become harder or easier as the student progresses through the items. CAT tests are better at pinpointing student performance and areas of strength and weakness to help guide future instruction. The number of items for an individual student will vary. In general, students will respond to approximately 40–44 items on each CAT. Jan-Feb 2019

12 CAT/Computer Adaptive Tests Estimated Testing Times
DRC Slide 14 CAT/Computer Adaptive Tests Estimated Testing Times The estimated testing time for each CAT session is 2 hours. Administration of a CAT session can be completed over multiple days. The CAT will not lock down overnight, however students cannot go back to previously viewed items. If the scheduled testing period ends before a student finishes, direct student to click Pause and then click Exit Test. Note on the testing roster which students need more time. Paused tests may be resumed on a subsequent day. The student will use their original test ticket and the test will start at the next item. The CAT sessions are not timed. Students working productively must be given time to complete the session.

13 CAT/Computer Adaptive Tests Navigation Rules
DRC Slide 15 CAT/Computer Adaptive Tests Navigation Rules Students cannot skip test questions. A student must respond to the given item before they can move to the next item. Students cannot go back to previous test questions. The CAT does not have a Review Screen (also cannot flag items). After responding to the last item the test will automatically submit for scoring. Once all items have been answered, the student will be unable to re- enter the test.

14 CAT/Computer Adaptive Tests Completion Screen
Nevada Administration Training Sessions 2/25/2019 DRC Slide 16 CAT/Computer Adaptive Tests Completion Screen After completing the last question and clicking on the “next” button, the CAT automatically ends and students are presented with a “Congratulations” screen. Jan-Feb 2019

15 PT/Performance Tasks Summative (SBAC) – ELA & Math
Nevada Administration Training Sessions 2/25/2019 DRC Slide 17 PT/Performance Tasks Summative (SBAC) – ELA & Math Performance Tasks are “fixed form” tests. Once started, the task (or task part) must be completed and submitted within a single testing period. The ELA Performance Task is split into two parts. Part 1 contains a reading passage and reading test questions. Part 2 contains the same reading passage and an extended writing item. Students produce an “on-demand writing” sample. The Mathematics Performance Task has only one part. PT item sets are randomized and students may not receive the same questions/tasks within the same testing group. Jan-Feb 2019

16 PT/Performance Tasks Estimated Testing Times
Nevada Administration Training Sessions 2/25/2019 DRC Slide 18 PT/Performance Tasks Estimated Testing Times Estimated testing time for EACH PART is hours ELA PT Part 1=1.5-2h, ELA PT Part 2=1.5-2h, Math PT=1.5-2h The PTs are not timed and students working productively must be given time to complete the session/part. Math PT must be completed during a single testing period. ELA PT – schedule two separate testing periods, one for each part. Parts 1 and 2 may be given on the same day (with a break between parts) or on separate days. Do not permit students to start both parts within the same testing period. Plan accordingly to ensure students will have the time they need to complete the scheduled PT or PT part within the school day. Jan-Feb 2019

17 PT/Performance Tasks Navigation Rules & Review Screen
Nevada Administration Training Sessions 2/25/2019 DRC Slide 19 PT/Performance Tasks Navigation Rules & Review Screen Within each test part, students may navigate forward through test questions or go back to review/change answers. Students may skip to the next question without answering the current question. Students will see a Review Screen at the end of each test part. The Review Screen will show which questions have not been answered. Students may navigate back to provide answers to items. When the student is finished, he/she will click on “End Test.” Notes: 1. The DRC INSIGHT system will not prevent a student from submitting the test with unanswered items. 2. If a student doesn’t submit their test…for each PT part, if the test status of the part is left “In Progress”, the student will not be allowed access to the test after an unsupervised break. No action is needed. Tests left “In Progress” will be automatically submitted for scoring after the end of the testing window. Jan-Feb 2019

18 PT/Performance Tasks End Test  Submit
Nevada Administration Training Sessions 2/25/2019 DRC Slide 20 PT/Performance Tasks End Test  Submit A pop-up box will ask the student to confirm they have completed the test by clicking on the “Submit Test” button. After a test is submitted, the student will be locked out of the test. “Are you done…? Be sure you have answered all of the questions.” Tip: Practice with the Online Tools Training (OTT) so students are familiar with the types of screens and checks they will see before submitting their test for scoring. “You have answered all questions.” (All boxes will be checked) Jan-Feb 2019

2/25/2019 DRC Slide 35 Unlocking Tests Completed CAT and fixed form tests are designed to lock in DRC INSIGHT for test security reasons. Only District Test Directors are granted permission to unlock tests. DRC/NDE – It is extremely unlikely that student error will warrant unlocking a test (i.e. prematurely ending a test). Closely monitor students. Contact Assessment Support: Some cases may require a school to submit a formal request by to unlock a test. Unlocks without appropriate rationale/documentation may lead to test invalidations. NDE and DRC will monitor unlocks and contact districts with an unusual number or pattern of unlock activity. Jan-Feb 2019

37 Unlocking Tests “Locking Rules” for Individual Tests
DRC Slide 37 Unlocking Tests “Locking Rules” for Individual Tests Test sessions/parts that must be completed in a single testing period; these tests will lock overnight (from start to finish, administer these tests in one supervised testing period): Summative Math Performance Task Summative ELA Performance Task Part 1 Summative ELA Performance Task Part 2 Science Test Part 1 Science Test Part 2 Test sessions/parts that will NOT lock overnight and may be completed over multiple days: Summative CAT sessions For PAPER test administrations (including the NAA), authorized test administrators should transcribe and submit a full content area or test part in a single sitting.

38 Nevada Administration Training Sessions
2/25/2019 DRC Slide 38 NDE Guidelines for Unlocking Tests: Special Circumstances (Irregularities) Contact Assessment Support Irregularity: Interruption – Evacuations, lock-downs, technical issues If tests become locked, district may determine if tests may be unlocked. If testing can be resumed, students must be directed to not review previous items, and test administrators/proctors must actively circulate and monitor students. This process is similar to the paper-and-pencil evacuation protocol. Irregularity: Student becomes ill, does not return same day (Summative PT, Science, EOC) Make note of the time the student started and was dismissed, and the item number the student was on (if possible). Pause and exit the test (do not end test/submit). Contact Assessment Support the same day. Depending on number of items completed before student became ill and incident* details, student may be able to resume testing upon return to school. Designated district personnel will have to contact DRC for instructions and/or additional information in the following circumstances. These occurrences will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. Student becomes ill. Student logs in using another student’s ticket. Student begins testing without appropriate accommodations. Student Illness – DTD Information: --If a student becomes ill during testing and has completed 5 responses or fewer, designated district personnel may unlock the test. --If a student becomes ill during testing and has completed more than 5 responses, designated district personnel will contact DRC for instructions. These occurrences will be reviewed on a case-by case basis. *Each incident will be reviewed on a case-by case basis. Jan-Feb 2019

DRC Slide 49 Speaking/Speech Recognition Software (Speech-to-Text/STT) The DRC INSIGHT system does not currently support embedded integration of commercially available applications for speaking/speech recognition (dictation).  The NDE testing accommodations form states that student’s utilizing speech- to-text will use their own assistive technology devices. Speech-to-text must be documented on the testing accommodations form for IEP and 504, and flagged in eDIRECT. Special district/state approval is needed for non-IEP/504 students requiring use of STT software. Student responses must be transcribed into the INSGHT test engine by a licensed Nevada educator, trained in Nevada test security and test administration procedures, who has signed the Confidentiality Agreement form, and following procedures provided in the Test Administrator’s Manual.

49 INSIGHT Security Features
Nevada Administration Training Sessions 2/25/2019 DRC Slide 55 INSIGHT Security Features Desktop Lockdown: During testing, the system locks the desktop preventing copying, pasting, or printing of screen images. The system also blocks access to other applications and prevents interference from automatic software processes such as virus scans. Prevention of Test Submission from Multiple Machines: This feature prohibits two students from using the same login at the same time. When more than one login is detected, a warning message will appear and the student will be directed to ask for assistance. Inactivity Timeout Feature: The system will timeout and close the test after a defined period of inactivity (e.g., no mouse movement or typing for 20 minutes). The application will display an inactivity countdown clock and timeout warning message prior to logging the student out of the test and closing the application. Jan-Feb 2019

84 Nevada Alternate Assessment for Grades 3-8 & 11
DRC Slide 29 Nevada Alternate Assessment for Grades 3-8 & 11 The Nevada Alternate Assessment (NAA) is an alternate assessment for students with significant cognitive disabilities to demonstrate knowledge in each content area. Only students who meet the eligibility requirements should participate in the NAA (See TCM pp3-4). All test items are aligned to the NVACS Connectors. ELA and Math are tested in Grades 3-8 and 11. Science is assessed at Grades 5, 8 and 11. Students taking the NAA do not participate in the Nevada CRT (Science or Summative Smarter Balanced) or ACT with Writing.

85 Nevada Alternate Assessment Testing Times
DRC Slide 30 Nevada Alternate Assessment Testing Times The NAA test is administered in a one-on-one session. The test administrator will mark a student’s response to each question or note if the student does not respond to the question. Administration of the NAA test must be video recorded. Student videos are returned to DRC along with all other materials received from DRC. The NAA is an untimed assessment and may be administered over several days, as many as are needed. Students may take as much time as needed to complete the assessment. Breaks should be given based on the student’s individual needs.

86 NAA – Test Security NAA-TCM page 9
DRC Slide – NAA Regional NAA – Test Security NAA-TCM page 9 The NAA is a secure standardized assessment. The following steps must be taken to safeguard security of test materials: Locked, secure storage must be provided for all secure testing materials. Locked storage must be accessible to only the Principal, Test Coordinator, and authorized Test Administrator. Test Booklets and Student Response Booklets must not be distributed (for administration) until the prescribed testing window (TA early viewing, Feb 7-20). DO NOT copy, reproduce, or take notes on test items. Disclosure of test content is strictly prohibited by state law.

Assessments are scored a second time by a validation scorer. It is imperative the validation scorer is able to verify student responses from viewing the video. Video Recording Perspectives Should Provide: Clear, unobstructed view of Student Response Booklet or work surface. Audible verbal response; audio must capture answers, unobstructed by background noise. Definitive eye gaze.

98 VIDEO RECORDING Best Practices
DRC Slide – NAA Regional VIDEO RECORDING Best Practices BEFORE Administration TA – Acquire video equipment and become familiar with using the video equipment. TC – Coordinate additional support as needed. TA – Practice video recording equipment setup and be able to replicate at test time. TA/TC – Practice saving video files to secure location designated by the school (complete as soon as first test is complete). DURING Administration TA – Ensure equipment is in good working order before each successive assessment administration. TA – Record the test administration only once. Re-recording will result in invalid scores. TA/TC – Store video equipment used for testing in secure cabinet with test materials.

99 VIDEO RECORDING Best Practices
DRC Slide – NAA Regional VIDEO RECORDING Best Practices AFTER Administration TA & TC – Ensure all videos are properly labeled and saved to secure location until September 30 of the current testing year, and after all scores have been released. TA & TC – After transferring the video files to the CD, DVD, or USB flash drive (USB flash drives preferred). Ensure the actual video files are saved and not just shortcuts to the files. TA & TC – Clearly label each CD, DVD, or USB flash drive with the student’s name and State Student ID. TA & TC – Always verify that ALL test administration videos will open and play on a computer different from the computer on which the files were originally saved.
