Population Unit Key Questions: Where in the world do people live and why? Why do populations fall and rise in particular places? How do governments affect population change?

8 World Population Distribution

9 Vocabulary Demography is the study of population. Population density tells us how many people live in a given area. Demographers measure population changes over time through comparing birth rates and death rates.

10 Crude birth rate measures the amount of people born per 1000 people.
Vocabulary Crude birth rate measures the amount of people born per 1000 people. Crude death rate measures the amount of people that die per 1000 people.

11 Total Fertility Rate Total fertility rate is the average number of children a woman would have if she survives all her childbearing (or reproductive) years.
