It is believed that the Soviet Union, the global rival of the United States, has moved intermediate (IRBM) and medium (MRBM) range ballistic missiles with nuclear capabilities to its ally country Cuba, a small island nation located just 100 miles from the eastern coast of the continental United States.

4. Due to the competing natures of the political and economic systems of the United States and the USSR on a global scale, tensions between the two countries are very high.

5. This tension has been heightened by a recent attempt by the United States to overthrow Cuba’s pro – Soviet government and replace it with a more pro – US government.

6. This action of arming Cuba, if true, is a highly aggressive and dangerous act by the USSR that can not and will not be tolerated by the United States.

7. The President has called an emergency meeting of the National Security Council to gather more relevant information and determine what course of action to take against this new threat and, possibly, against the USSR itself.

9. Congratulations! Your decision to launch a full scale invasion of Cuba resulted in retaliation from the USSR and a led to a worldwide nuclear war. You, and every other human being, has been killed by nuclear blasts or will soon die from massive amounts of worldwide radiation.

10. Oops! Your decision to use military force led to an all-out war between the USSR and the US. You underestimated the USSR’s ability to wage war against you. Although a nuclear holocaust, and worldwide destruction did not occur, nuclear weapons were launched by both sides in the latter stages of the war as it became apparent neither side could win without using them. The resulting destruction to the cities, population, and economy of the US will relegate the US to third-world
status.

Your exposure of the USSR’s involvement in this crisis at the United Nations, in front of the rest of the world, demonstrated to every nation their claims of not providing Cuba with these missiles were false. Exposed and embarrassed, with pressure from the rest of the world, the USSR removed the missile sites from Cuba, ending the crisis.

12. Nice choice. The economic pressure placed on the USSR (embargo) and more importantly, the small, isolated island of Cuba (blockade), persuaded Cuba to halt construction of the missile bases. The USSR, worried about the economic impact of the embargo, withdrew the missiles from Cuba, ending the crisis.

13. Fine Option. By maintaining diplomatic negotiations with the USSR, you were able to resolve some of the issues between your two countries. The USSR agreed to remove the offensive missile sites from Cuba in exchange for a US promise to not try to overthrow Cuba’s government again. Both nations were able to get something that they wanted.
