Follow up – Competency points are verified by supervisor and is signed by the trainee/trainer to complete the training. 2 SAFE WORK INSTRUCTIONS
Title: Non Production Tramming/Positioning of Equipment SAFE WORK INSTRUCTIONS KEY POINTS SAFETY PRECAUTIONS Pre-operational checks Check the overall condition of the equipment to be trammed. Check the cable, plugs and breaker for proper ID tags, any defects or damage prior to energizing equipment. Check the control levers to make sure that all levers are centered and not sticking. Check the area where you will be tramming for any obstacles and condition of the tram roads. Tram roads must be maintained in a damp to wet condition. Equipment stored outside for mechanics working on the surface is more prone to freezing or sticking levers and subject to animals making homes inside of equipment. Energizing the equipment Sound audible alarms prior to starting equipment to alert others of start up. Communicate your intentions with anyone in your work area. Once the equipment is energized and prior to moving check all E-stops and Panic switches to ensure proper operation. Review all potential pinch points and red zones associated with the equipment that you will be tramming. Use proper body positioning to avoid potential pinch points and red zones. Use remote control devices whenever possible to avoid pinch points and red zones. Never enter into or allow anyone else to enter into potential pinch points or red zones while the equipment is energized. Tramming If the equipment is equipped with an operators compartment the equipment must be operated from within the operators compartment. When tramming section feeders use proper body positioning to avoid pinch points and red zones. (Use remote control devices whenever possible). When tramming auxiliary fans do not stand between the tight side of the machine and the rib. Whenever possible stay in the center of the entry or crosscut. If tramming the equipment for maintenance or servicing examine the area where you are tramming from and the area where you will be working. Be aware of cables in areas you are tramming. When tramming the shearer for longwall operations be aware of tripping hazards in the walkway. (relay bars)
