2 Why here? Why now? Safety and Operations:
The development of Capital Bikeshare is guided by the Capital Bikeshare Development Plan, available free online at: The area pertaining to this station is on page 72. The plan provides target areas for new stations, and a timeline so that expansion of the network does not negatively impact service at the core. A station in the general area of 11th and C SE is called for in the plan in 2018, which is what prompted DDOT to reach out to ANC 6B for guidance on where to place the station. After evaluating many locations, C and 11th was selected due to the safety of the location, its proximity to bike infrastructure, its distance from other stations, and its minor impact on resident parking. vPhase II: Safety and Operations: Continued cap of 400 vehicles (up to 100 of which may be scooters) Safety specifications for bicycles and scooters DDOT safety enforcement: Fines for deficient equipment Data reporting to support oversight Personal privacy protection Fines for non-compliance Vehicle registration

3 Planning Area Locations evaluated = Location selected =
Existing CaBi Station= Note that the grey circle with the number “18” in the center is the area the Bikeshare Development Plan identified as in need of additional bikeshare coverage, so the locations search was focused in and around that circle. The circle is an approximately 1/8 mile radius centered on 11th and C SE.

4 Requests for station Safety and Operations:
Requests for new stations are collected on There are ten requests for the selected location, shown circled to the right. There are many other requests in the surrounding area. Examples of these requests are shown on the far right. Public requests help guide the planning process. vPhase II: Safety and Operations: Continued cap of 400 vehicles (up to 100 of which may be scooters) Safety specifications for bicycles and scooters DDOT safety enforcement: Fines for deficient equipment Data reporting to support oversight Personal privacy protection Fines for non-compliance Vehicle registration

5 Sites evaluated: C and 8th
vPhase II: Safety and Operations: Continued cap of 400 vehicles (up to 100 of which may be scooters) Safety specifications for bicycles and scooters DDOT safety enforcement: Fines for deficient equipment Data reporting to support oversight Personal privacy protection Fines for non-compliance Vehicle registration Reason unsuitable for bikeshare: insufficient space for station on sidewalk (6-8 foot sidewalks, need 12 feet for ADA compliance). No bike lane to protect an in-street station.

6 Sites evaluated: Independence & 11th SE

vPhase II: Safety and Operations: Continued cap of 400 vehicles (up to 100 of which may be scooters) Safety specifications for bicycles and scooters DDOT safety enforcement: Fines for deficient equipment Data reporting to support oversight Personal privacy protection Fines for non-compliance Vehicle registration Reason unsuitable for bikeshare: insufficient space for station on sidewalk (6-8 foot sidewalks, need 12 feet for ADA compliance). In street station would require parking loss, which was determined to be undesirable in front of residences.
