2 Q1 a. What steps have already been taken?
Developed the case for Investment in nutrition in Sudan published Feb 2016 developed before SUN started It is multi-sectoral. Co-written by all ministries and endorsed by all sectors have not developed the action plan yet due to lack of funds Led by the MoH.

3 Q1 a. What steps have already been taken?
Establishment of SUN 2015. The ministry has established several committees to drive SUN There are sectoral plans for WASH, FS, nutrition, health etc. Common indicators between WASH, health, nutrition are agreed MoH has been leading in the push integration between the sectors, some progress but there is no concrete action plan yet. Food fortification (voluntary) has started National guideline for CMAM includes GOAL’s NIPP (Nutrition Impact and Positive Practise), which is a for the community part for prevention and treatment of MAM. Technical advisory established in 2018

4 Q1 b. What are the next steps?
Develop an action plan for the investment case 2016, which will focus on prevention & treatment and will be multi-sectoral. Once the investment action plan is developed the HRP should be in line with this plan Clarify the roles and responsibilities of SUN, Cluster and national humanitarian mechanism (parallel to OCHA) which covers all sectors.

5 Q1 c. How can partners help?
Assist with developing the action plan, each actor bringing their mandates and strengths to the table Commit to part of the plan with resources (technical & funds). Implementing partners and donors endorse the action plan and align all future programming and funding The Cluster could assist with the coordination and ensure pooled funds are in line with the action plan Partners need to assist with the clarification and harmonisation of humanitarian/development mechanisms (SUN, Cluster, national mechanism)

6 Q2 How can the nutrition sector work on a multi-sector integrated package and generate evidence to scale up? Many actors implementing different multi-sectoral in Sudan. need to be mapped out, key lessons learnt harmonised within the Cluster. This should feed into the development of the national action plan.

7 Q3: Strengthening of information and surveillance to inform programming
There is an established CMAM database collecting routine programme data There is a need for a surveillance system with sentinel sites and early warning. WHO is leading on this. Has provided regional training with 2 trained from Sudan. The roll out has not started yet due to funding gaps Phase 1 is a plan to implement in 6 of 18 states.

8 Q4: Learning from other countries
Bangladesh: First need to establish the minimum package of interventions per sector Nigeria: Provided integrated training package providing by the Cluster Ethiopia: Very structured national package which includes integrated training, behaviour change messages positive for standardisation but difficult to adapt to context specific causes of malnutrition.
