4 Weapons of war Poison gas – introduced by Germans, used by both sides. Invention of gas mask Machine gun – causes a stalemate Tank – introduced by British Airplane – first used for photographs then bombs then air combat (Red Baron)

9 Submarine – U-Boat introduced by Germans who practices unrestricted submarine warfare – strike without warning. Propaganda – one-sided information such was war posters Rationing – limit to what you can buy. Total war – all resources to the war.

11 Eastern Front Russia wins at first but tide turns in Dec By 1916, Russia almost defeated. Germans block Baltic Sea and Ottomans block Black Sea. Russia Cut off.

12 War outside of Europe Gallipoli – Ottoman Empire. Allies forces British, Australian, New Zealand, and French fail China – German outposts overrun by Japan Africa -British and French attack German possessions.

13 US Involvement 1915 – sinking of the Lusitania. 128 Americans die.
Feb 1917 – Zimmerman note. Germany asks Mexico to attack U.S. and get back TX,AZ, NM. Mar 1917 – Russia withdraws from war. Mar 1917 – 2nd battle of Marne begins. Germany getting tired.

14 Apr 1917 – U.S. declares war. 2 million fresh soldiers enter war and push back the Germans.
Nov War ends.
