4 Fair Doc H Facts: The Native American Citizenship Act (1924)
Native Americans received citizenship. They also received land and the right to vote (500,000 of them). Why Fair? Got some of their freedom back, able to vote and participate in government, power to choose their leaders.

5 Fair Facts: (Doc E) In 1887 N Americans had 139 million acres in the west. (Doc A) Children were sent to schools to learn to be ‘American’ Learned to give up their culture and language – spoke English, learned how to read, sew, farm. Why fair: Built skills to get jobs and make money in American society (Doc H) The Native American Citizenship Act 1924 gave Native Americans the vote And citizenship and land on reservation. Why fair: Gave them rights and land back.

6 Unfair DOC G/DOC F Schools were abusing students
Forcing them to do hard labor Kids were getting sick and sometimes died and parents weren’t allowed to see their children. Kids were shown movies about Cowboys and Indians that showed Indians getting killed. Why unfair: Making fun of their culture, breaking their identity, making them feel weak. Indoctrinated the children (indoctrinated means to teach one’s beliefs). DOC B: - Americans had racist ideas about Indians: “Red People” and should be forced to change to American ways.
