1 Romeo and Juliet reading 4 Date:
Objectives Finish scene five and Act One. Answer questions for the purpose of a closer reading for the Junior Cert. Warm –up – A4 pad – write the quote, answer the question “ Did my heart love till now? Foreswear it, sight! For I ne’er saw true beauty till this night” (C50) Romeo and Juliet fall in love at first sight. Do you think it is possible to ‘love’ someone that quick? Why or why not?

2 Notes – write this down Aside: when the character speaks directly to the audience. Always truthful. ‘Inside information’. This is Romeo and Juliet’s first meeting, perhaps the most important scene in western civilisation. Never hurts to be dramatic when talking about drama  Take this note time to get volunteers for readings.

Roles: The party scene. People are dancing. Romeo sees Juliet and they kiss.... we shall not re-enact this. 4 Questions – Point, “reference”, explain.
What is Lord Capulets attitude towards Romeo? What does this say about the family feud? Describe Romeo and Juliet’s first meeting. (c91 onwards) There are two hints of the danger to come for Romeo and Juliet. What are these? (Search for Tybalt and the Aside)

5 Cooldown Question Always try and put this in terms of modern day. Imagine the two groups are Goths and Jocks. One of them intrude on the other’s house party and kiss the most important girl in the room. How would you feel as a member of either group?
