3 Classroom Expectations
Follow Classroom and School Rules Individual Behavior Plan If needed- behavior chart Whole Class Behavior Plan Cotton Ball Jar When class is making full effort to follow class expectations (ex: quiet in the hallway, on-task writing, silently reading/working) = 1 cotton ball in the jar When jar is full, class will have a celebration together (ex: Readathon, lunch with the teacher, movie, etc.)

Birthdays Celebrate with a snack from the SJS approved list (no frozen treats) Guest reader Scholastic Reading Club Book order forms and code

5 Homework If student is absent, their homework will be sent to the office where siblings/parents can pick it up. Every Night: Read for 20 minutes every night Parent initial on weekly calendar Practice spelling words Tuesday:Math Worksheet(starting next week) Wednesday: Math Worksheet & Find 6 words that fit the spelling pattern for that week. Thursday: STUDY! Simple Solutions - practice quiz (This week!) Spelling Words (starting week of Sept. 10th) Return weekly reading calendar with the 3 activities completed attached. (starting week of Sept. 10th)

8 First Grade Schedule Lunch and Recess: 12:30-1:10
Snack: Daily in the mornings Please make sure your child’s snack is from the SJS approved food list. Music on Monday PE on Wednesday Library on Thursday Mass and PE on Friday

9 ELA Curriculum Reading: Writing
Develop fluency, comprehension and vocabulary Learn how to reflect, analyze and discuss across all genres of literature Work will be kept in a three subject notebook Writing Throughout all the curriculum Direct instruction begins in January Narrative Informational Persuasive Poetry

10 ELA Curriculum Cont’d Language: Phonics/Spelling:
Parts of Speech Sentence Structure Daily Language in January Phonics/Spelling: Long and Short Vowel Patterns Blends and Diagraphs Initial, medial, and final sounds Compound Words Syllables Word Wall (High Frequency Words) Each week we will focus on four words in class.

11 Spelling Zaner Bloser Differentiated lists
Students will take a pretest each week to determine which list they will be working with that week.
