Students should be responsible for anything sent home that needs to come back to school (i.e. books, forms, agendas, etc.) Teaching your child responsibility takes some of the pressure off you, AND teaches them a life skill Students are also responsible for completing assignments on time. There will be consequences for not being responsible

7 O – On time Attendance Our work day begins promptly at 8:00, but getting to school before the 7:50 bell is recommended. If your child will be checking out early, please let us know in advance so that we can have your child ready to go. We cannot come back to the room during lunch to get book bags and belongings. We have a LOT of curriculum to cover this year, so it is crucial that your child be at school unless he/she is truly sick (fever, contagious, throwing up, etc.) Assessments can take place any day of the week. First major testing year (CoGAT & ITBS in September, and GA Milestone Test in April)

8 English Language Arts and Literacy
C - Curriculum English Language Arts and Literacy Third grade is a pivotal year for your child! Learning to read with fluency and confidence Be able to make sense of multi-syllable words in books Appreciate that words have meanings that are not literal (e.g., a piece of cake) and have relationships to other words (e.g., company and companion) By the end of the year, your child will be writing clear sentences and paragraphs on a range of topics, drawing on an expanding vocabulary.

9 C - Curriculum Math Key Concepts
One of the most important topics this year is multiplication and division. ALL students need to be working to have their multiplication/division facts, through the 10s, memorized by December. Fractions. Multiplication, division, and fractions are the building blocks for many life skills that students will learn in later grades, such as percentages.

10 C - Curriculum The International Baccalaureate (IB) offers a continuum of international education. Our six units that we will be teaching are: Who We Are (Rules & Laws, Pollution, Recycling) How the World Works (Rocks, Fossils, Heat, Weathering, and Erosion) How we Organize Ourselves (Colonies, Productive Resources, Goods & Services, Soil) Sharing the Planet (Explorers and Map Skills) Where we are in Place and Time (American Indians, Animals, and Habitats) How We Express Ourselves (Branches of Government and Currency)

11 K – Keep Practicing Students will be expected to practice math facts and reading each night. (Freckle website for practice.) If your child is having difficulty with concepts learned in class, he/she may be given practice work. Students who are still struggling with the addition and subtraction math facts need to continue to practice in preparation for the multiplication and division we will begin learning shortly.
