2 Dermatology treats not only the skin but all of the Integumentary system
Dermatology ,or study of the skin, is a medical specialty that treats not only the skin but all of the Integumentary system which is skin, hair, nails and the glands within the skin.

3 Combining Form Medical Terms
Derm/o Cutane/o Integument/o SKIN HAIR Follicul/o NAILS Lun/o Onych/o GLANDS Sebace/o Sudor/i Derm/o- is the combining form medical term that means skin but the terms cutane/o- and integument/o- also refer to skin. The accessory structures of the hair, nails and glands have their own medical terms such as follicul/o- which means hair follicle, lun/o- and onych/o- which refer to the nails and sebace/o- and sudor/i- which refer to the oil and sweat secreting glands.

4 Skin Lesions A fluid-filled sac on the skin
There are many different types of skin lesions and each has its special name. Remembering all the names can be challenging but often you can use the name as a clue to what the lesion looks like. Cyst/o- is a combing form meaning bladder or sac that you learned about in the digestive system. A skin cyst is a fluid filled sac on the skin. A pustule is a skin lesion containing pus. A skin lesion containing pus

Infections Boils Allergic Reactions Shingles Autoimmune Disorders Psoriasis Cancers Seborrheic Keratosis The four main pathologies of the skin include infections, allergic reactions, autoimmune disorders and cancers.

The nails, hair and glands also can exhibit symptoms of underlying disease or have problems Onychomycosis Alopecia Acne Vulgaris The nails, hair and glands also can exhibit symptoms of underlying disease or have problems of their own such as onchymycosis (a fungal infection of the nails), alopecia (a loss of scalp hair), and acne vulgaris (an overproduction of the oil glands that causes pimples).
