There are 3 basic types of sentence
A simple sentence – one clause (A complete thought – containing one subject and one verb). – eg; Bob went to the store
A compound sentence – two clauses, joined by a connective. Each clause is equally important and could stand alone – eg; Bob went to the store and he bought 3 bars of chocolate.
A complex sentence – has two or more clauses, but only one of them can stand alone. The others would not make sense on their own – eg; Bob went to the store, which was down the road.
