3 TEAM Story Building You are creating a story together that must have a beginning, middle and end, making sure to have a setting, characters, action or conflict and a resolution. Each person says six words going in order around the room. Every person must have a chance to say their words, before the story is complete. Everyone needs to make sure to pay attention so you don’t mess up the story, when it is your turn.

What programming or strategies do the schools you work with have in place? What is the goal of the programming or strategies or what need is it addressing? Is it meeting that goal or need? Do the schools’ plans meet all 13 domains of school climate? Do the plans improve feelings of school connectedness? How do the students respond? What is working? What data supports this? What could be better?

11 What Current Programs are Lacking
Most programs start later than needed - Prevention programs starting at a young age (K) are essential. Disjointed or piece meal programs are a major barrier to school climate improvement. Programs that focus on one area (ie anti-bullying, character ed) are not improving the whole child or impacting school climate. Programs must be a comprehensive and sustainable approach versus a stand alone, short-term method. Research shows that in order for programs to be effective they must be integrated into every fabric of curriculum and school life, across grade levels and content areas. To be an effective SEL program, skills must be taught consistently by all staff creating a common language, which must be related to behavior expectations. All staff members must be trained and there should be parent/community buy in.

How does it feel when they win or things are going well? How does it feel when they lose or something bad happens? The result of your reaction is due to the overall feeling of connection you have to that team or organization.
