Recommendations – the power of the endorsement Ask for project specific recommendations Manage order of recommendations based on job you want Skills Endorsement of skills are specific Consider adding a customized skill Contacts Expand relevant connections Exclude connections with no value Respond to requests in timely manner. Photo -A person who sees your profile should be able to recognize you. Updated, appropriate, and recognizable – don’t let it be an old, glamour pic that you took a long time ago. Make it current and relevant! Kawasaki recommends not looking directly at the camera OR using a side profile that only takes up 2/3 of the canvas. Summary What motivates you? What are you especially skilled at? (This is the part that is like your cover letter, but NOT the objective of the resume) Headline Value statement (how are you unique?) – which words are you using to sell yourself? (Smart, surprising, hacker, critical, undefeated, etc.) What you do and how it benefits others Recommendations – the power of the endorsement Ask for project specific recommendations that you know you did well on. DO NOT ASK FOR A RECOMMENDATION on a mediocre project! Manage order of recommendations based on job you want – you can order them based on which client might be looking at it. Skills Endorsement of skills are specific You can create your own skills that people will endorse (industry specific terms) No LinkedIn Open Networkers or overseas recruiters should endorse you – the are fake and easily identifiable. Only endorse others who deserve it – otherwise the value of the endorsement drops. Consider adding your own, customized skill! Contacts Expand relevant connections Exclude connections with no value, especially when you are putting your linked in page out there. Respond to connection requests quickly Contacts are people you are endorsing! [The more connections you have, the more exposed your profile will be – which is a good thing in LinkedIn!] Increased domestic sales by 148% in first year!

Customize your LinkedIn URL Make your name stand out and show customization skills Add a Cover Photo that reflects who you are InfoGraphic or industry pic Solicit a recommendation Include project name, when and your role in request Add courses, organizations, Awards, Publications, etc. Add Causes you care about – reflect your passions and interests! When you ask for a recommendation, it should be a personalized request – what are you asking them to endorse?
