3. "Holocaust" is a word of Greek origin meaning "sacrifice by fire“.
The Nazis believed that Germans were "racially superior" and that the Jews, deemed "inferior," were "unworthy of life."
The Nazis also targeted other groups they thought were inferior, such as Gypsies, Handicapped, Communists and Homosexuals.

5. Nazi hatred of the Jews
In the last two lessons, we studied the persecution of the Jews in some detail. In today's lesson we will be focusing solely on Nazi hatred of the Jews. Can you think of any reasons why the Nazis hated the Jews? Think back to your previous work

6. Why did the Nazis hate the Jews?
Jews in Germany often had money and were concentrated in certain professions – many Germans were jealous of this
Jews tended to marry Jews – they were accused of ‘not fitting in’
Jews had been hated for years – in the 14th century Jews were blamed for the plague, 100,000 were killed in Germany
Before World War I the German Kaiser said that the Jews were the ‘curse of my country’
In short, The Nazis message was not new, Jews had been hated by some in Germany for a long time

7. Why Did Hitler want the Jewish people dead?
Adolf Hitler was the military and political leader of Germany from He believed that the reason Germany lost World War One was because of the Jewish people.

8. Anti -Semitism Aryan Race
This is the term given to political, social and economic agitation against Jews. In simple terms it means ‘Hatred of Jews’.
Aryan Race
This was the name of what Hitler believed was the perfect race. These were people with full German blood, blonde hair and blue eyes.

9. Sub-Humans
The Germans taught that some people weren’t even human, for example Asians, Arabs, and Jews.
The largest picture shows a Jewish Man and the writing says “The Jew is a Bastard”.

In order to understand the underlying causes of the Holocaust, write what Hitler and the Nazis say about different groups and what laws they introduced onto your A4 sheet- you may already be aware of some of the laws from our previous lesson

Our class paragraph
One major belief that the Nazis thought, which led to the Holocaust, was that Jews were responsible for Germany losing World War I. This belief was caused by German leaders accusing Jews of sabotaging the German war effort and helping Russia to win the war. Due to this belief, many Germans supported the Nazis hatred of Jews. Some felt that Germany would be in a much better state if not for Jewish people. This belief led to the Holocaust because killing Jews was seen as revenge for their betrayal of Germany.
