3  Believed that “Aryans” were a master race  Aryans had blonde hair and blue eyes  Jews, Slavs, and Gypsies were inferior  Germany was “over- crowded”, needed lebensraum (living space)  Became Chancellor in 1933  Became Fuhrer in 1934

4  Nazi party became the largest political party in 1932  The Nazi’s were officers who served under the dictatorship of Hitler.  Hatred of Jews, Slavs, Gypsies, and disabled people  Declared war on the Jews, and blamed them for the economic depression.  Deprived Jews of most of their rights

9  The Holocaust was a mass murder of Jewish people.  It was lead by Adolf Hitler.  Started in 1933 and ended in 1945.  Nazi’s were commanded by Hitler to remove Jews from their homes, and to destroy any Jewish schools and buildings owned by Jews.  Approximately 6 million Jews were killed, either in their homes, on the streets, or in Concentration Camps

10  The word holocaust comes from the Greek word “holokauston”, which means a completely burnt sacrifice to God.  Anyone with at least 3 Jewish grandparents was to be killed with no exceptions.  Holocaust denial is now a crime in Germany
