Your subject needs to be a topic with which your audience can either agree or disagree
Your subject needs to be a topic about which you feel strongly
You must learn as much as you can about your subject. In the process, you form an opinion about your subject that you can effectively support.

3. Collecting Information
First, list your own thoughts about your subject – freewrite, cluster, or list.
Next, collect information from as many other sources as necessary – consider newspapers, news magazines, books, internet, TV

4. Writing your speech Review your notes.
Express in one sentence your opinion about your subject – this is your thesis.
List the main points that support your opinion.
Then write your speech. While writing, add ideas that come to you.

5. Introduction
Your introduction needs to grab the attention of your audience.
Ask a thought-provoking question about your subject
Tell an interesting story about your subject
Present a significant fact or statistic
Quote an expert on the subject
Define an important term

6. Body
The body of your speech presents your main points or reasons supporting your thesis. They are the heart of your speech.
Arrange your points by order of importance, classification, time, etc.
Notes are not word-for-word.
Each point should flow clearly and smoothly from one to the next. Use transitions to link your ideas.

7. The importance of support
Without support or evidence, you cannot effectively persuade an audience.
Include:
Facts – statements or statistics that support and validate your main points.
Examples
Quotations from experts
Observations
Predictions
Comparison
Experience
Analysis

8. Conclusion
Your conclusion needs to tie your main points together to draw a final conclusion.
Leave your audience with a clear understanding of the importance of your subject.
Call for action if appropriate.
