Anna Garcia Timeline -Angelina Leonard -Abby Koby

2 14 Months (Until 14 months Anna showed no medical problems)
Admitted to hospital: Fever, lethargic, breathing problems, and pain Breathing problems Sickle cell Little appetite Diabetes, Sickle cell Rapid heart rate

3 14 months cont. Tests Performed Treatment Diagnosis CBC Hematocrit
CT scan Sickle cell test Sickle cell anemia Severe anemia Splenic sequestration Treatment Pain Medication RBC Transfusion Antibiotics Intravenous Hydration Diagnosis

4 14 months cont. Body Systems Prevention
Circulatory- Sickle cell anemia: Blood clots and sickled cells Immune- Sickle cell anemia: Poor circulation of blood Respiratory- Sickle cell anemia: lack of oxygen transportation Prevention Parents monitor sickle cell Avoid strenuous exercise and high elevations

5 Age 10 Admitted to hospital: Sickle Cell crisis affecting leg and chest Prevention and treatment: Physical therapy, keeping up with pain medication, bed rest. Systems affected: Circulatory and respiratory

6 Age 14 Goes to hospital with symptoms including: Fatigue, frequent urination, increased thirst, and weight loss Tests: Urinalysis: Glucose in urine Glucose Tolerance Testing: Has Type 1 diabetes Prevention and treatment: Insulin pump, keeping up with medication, checking insulin levels

7 Age 17 Admitted to hospital: Multiple pain crisis
Treatment and prevention: Hydroxyurea, physical training, monitor diet, maintain normal blood sugar rates, consistent insulin injections, and taking proper precautions Systems: Circulatory: Diabetes- blood sugar not properly monitored by the body Nervous: Diabetes- Damage nerves due to high blood sugar Urinary: Diabetes- Constant filter of sugar= Urinary failure

8 Age 37 Went to a cardiologist because of unresolved chest pain- High diet in calories and fat Tests: CBC Test Full Cholesterol Panel Blood Sugar Hemoglobin Preventive Measures Nonsmoker Lower amount of calories monitor blood sugar

9 Age 38 Admitted to the hospital with strange urinary symptoms after sickle cell crisis and a long stay in the hospital Tests: (Diagnosed with a urinary tract infection) Morphology- Small, wavy, raised, and pink Gram Stain- Gram negative and coccus Enterotube- Serratia marcescens Systems: Urinary- increases the need for the transportation of blood which could cause blood clots Circulatory- need for more blood in the area of the bacteria Preventions: Take proper antibiotics to prevent further infection

10 Conclusion Questions 2) Her death was related to the malfunction of two body systems. This would include her circulatory system because of the high acidity and the high glucose levels in her blood. As well as her urinary system because of her constant need to urinate do to the cells and the osmosis occurring.

11 Conclusion questions cont.
3) She would say that she was feeling extreme pain, fatigue, burning sensations, weakness in joints, and shaky. 4) Medical/biomedical interventions that could have prevented her death includes the omnipod, and insulin detectors.

12 Conclusion questions cont.
5) Two careers we would be interested in learning more about includes analyzing bacteria, also we would be interested in learning about blood and the careers that go along with diseases of the blood.
