3. 1st person POV --- I
Remember, unlike the informative essay, this one will be written in the 1st person using “I”
This is just like those Greek Mythology Presentations we did – you are ASSUMING a role and pretending to be someone else

4. Use strong sensory details (sight, sound, smell, touch, taste) to make the characters and events come alive
The more details your writing has, the easier it will be for the reader to imagine the things you are describing
Bad example: I walked to the store and bought a coffee.
Good Example: I walked to the store and could hear the blaring sounds of the honking horns of traffic as I smelled the rich, delicious scent wafting out of my coffee I had just purchased.

5. Use dialogue (people talking) to help capture the moment
Since narratives are told in the first person, they always involve the use of dialogue aka people talking aka quotation marks
Bad example: My mom told me to not forget my lunch.
Good example: As I walked out the door, my mother said, “Don’t forget your lunch!”

6. Do not change any of the events of the story
You will be retelling an event from The Odyssey from a different character’s POV
BUT THAT DOES NOT MEAN YOU ARE MAKING SOMETHING UP
This is why you can use your textbook for this essay – so you can make sure your details sort of line up with the story

7. Essay must be 5 complete paragraphs – same as the informative essay
This means you are writing
an Introduction – a Good lead; I have a handout on this for you (3-4 sentences)
3 Body paragraphs (8 sentences each)
A Conclusion (3-4 sentences)

8. YOU HAVE TO WRITE A ROUGH DRAFT; THEN YOU WRITE A FINAL DRAFT; THEN YOU TURN BOTH OF THOSE IN
We had a lot of trouble with this last essay………..
You NEVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER just write one copy of an essay and turn it in
The English II, III, and Comp. Teachers will give you a big fat 0 if you do that

9. Today we are working on Rough Drafts; Next class (Monday) we are peer editing those and working on Final Drafts; The Final Drafts of these will BE DUE START OF CLASS WEDNESDAY (10/4) OR IT IS A 0

10. I understand that what I do not finish in class, I must finish at home
I understand that what I do not finish in class, I must finish at home. I understand that this means I only have “homework” if I play around in class and not get my work done.

11. I understand that this is a MAJOR GRADE that will be the first grade I have 2nd 9 weeks.
