2 Welcome to 3rd Grade! BUSY!! So far…2 DRAs, Study Island Benchmarks for ELA & Math, 3 Reading Tests, & Spelling Test. WHEW!! Typical Daily Schedule Book Exchange Day 1 Change from K-2: LOTS of technology use, assessments, organization expectations, responsibility, & more reading to learn and less learning to read

3 3rd Grade Curriculum Journey’s Reading Program – Guest Speakers
Journey’s Writing- focus, content, organization, conventions: Narrative, Opinion, Informative Journey’s Grammar Journey’s Spelling Go Math! – New this year – May skip problems/worksheets instead/math tools

4 3rd Grade Curriculum Science - Sound, Objects in the Sky, Water, Simple Machines, Animal Adaptations Social Studies - Civics/Government, Economics, Geography, Early History See our website for more thorough listing with links for resources

5 3rd Grade Assessments Journey’s Reading:
-3 Assessments on Day 5 - online (Comprehension, Vocabulary, Grammar) -Unit Assessments every 5 lessons - online Spelling: Pretest Day 1 & Post-Test Day 5 Writing Pieces: Rubrics – will be sent home Math: Assessments after each chapter, quizzes, & fluency checks

6 3rd Grade Assessments PSSAs – Results beginning of 4th grade
ELA (now 3 days): week of April 9th Math (now 2 days): week of April 16th DRAs – Sept., Feb., May Study Island ELA & Math Benchmarks – test knowledge of all 3rd grade – online – Sept., Jan., May (scores sent home in envelopes) All online assessments – paper home with score

7 Report Cards Letter (%) Grades – New last year
Based on PCS – Pennsylvania Core Standards 3,2,1- based on assessments, classwork – independent & group work, & class performance Not all standards taught every trimester Trimesters – 2 conferences – Nov. 16th (evening), Nov. 20th (day & evening), March 8th (evening), March 12th (day & evening)

3 - Meeting grade-level standard-Producing quality work 2 - Progressing toward the standard-Producing required grade-level work with teacher direction & assistance 1 - Beginning to develop the standard-not yet able to produce grade-level work X - Not assessed or observed at this time

15 minutes of reading - their pick/group book/Think Central Spelling Practice – list of ideas on website Math Workbook Pages – do independently/ask for help Please check over – circle if need help – NOT Mrs. Kepler’s way- let me know if struggling - get from a friend if forget 5 minutes of math fluency practice - flash cards, multiplication.com, other options on website Study Island can always be accessed as additional practice for reading or math if desired (70%) 

13 Homework On occasion: Study Island Assignment, PSSA Practice, Projects for Science or Social Studies HW Binder & Folder System - Please remember to sign planners every night. Your signature indicates to me that all homework was completed. Unsigned planners will count as incomplete homework. The Homework Binder and all homework should be returned everyday. Their responsibility to write in planner and get signed. Homework can be found on my website - Absent Thank you for your support!
