5 Confucianism Not technically a religion because it doesn’t address the afterlife. Based on the teachings of Kong Fu Zi (Confucius) who lived in China. Started during a time of increasing poverty and crime.

Daosism (Taoism) A mystical, contemporary version of Confucianism Emphasizes “naturalness”, simplicity, compassion, humility Encourages the continual improvement of health with the goal of immortality Sacrificing foods/animals and fortune-telling/astrology also important

11 Shinto Ethnic religion of Japan
Worship the “spirits” (kami) that they believe are present in nature, animals, and/or deceased ancestors and emperors Try to earn blessings from both good and evil kami.
