2. Sight Reading:
Playing a printed piece of music for the first time WITHOUT rehearsing it.
But HOW can I play this music the first time I see it without practicing??!!!
Like anything else the key to success is all in the way you THINK about it.
With the right thought sequence you will be able to play music you’ve never seen before with most of the right rhythms and notes without getting lost!

3. Sight Reading:
Your priorities while reading & playing any piece of music are:
RHYTHM : Without the rhythm being accurate even the “right notes” will be in the wrong place! Rhythm is the TOP priority!
PITCH : The “right notes” according to the key signature and the placement of the note on the staff.
ARTICULATION : Staccato, Legato, Accented, etc…..
DYNAMICS : Loud, soft, forte, mezzo forte, piano, mezzo piano, fortissimo, crescendo, etc….

4. Scan the entire piece of music for: The Key Signature
Key Signature : Shows which notes must be
changed to set the correct pitch pattern to
“Sound Right”.

5. Scan the entire piece of music for: The Time Signature
Time Signature : Describes the rhythmic
contents of each measure.

6. Scan the entire piece of music for: The “Road Map” (repeats, codas, 1st & 2nd endings, etc…)

7. Scan the entire piece of music for: Accidentals (notes altered from what the key signature shows)

8. Scan the entire piece of music for: Key/Time Signature Changes

9. Scan the entire piece of music for: Difficult Rhythms & Extreme Range Requirements
