Those exceeding in reception may not necessarily be exceeding in Year One because the expectation and criteria they need to achieve is much more complicated. 7 of the 11 for meeting the expectation for the end of the year. All children are currently working towards the Year One curriculum.

4 Handwriting Each child need to form lower case letters in the correct direction, relative size to one another(cursive font) They are able to write taught graphemes in a continuous cursive style. E.g: Those exceeding in reception may not necessarily be exceeding in Year One because the expectation and criteria they need to achieve is much more complicated. 7 of the 11 for meeting the expectation for the end of the year. All children are currently working towards the Year One curriculum.

5 Spellings Spell correctly words containing each of the 40+ phonemes already taught*. Spell Common Exception words for year one*.

7 Grammar Uses the prefix un- correctly.
Use suffix ing, ed, er and est where no change is needed in the spelling of the root word. help-helping,helped, helper. Punctuation Leaves spaces between words. Punctuates most sentences using a capital letter. Uses a capital letter for the personal pronoun ‘I’. Punctuates most sentences using a full stop. Can use a question mark. Can use an exclamation mark.

Joins words and joining clauses using ‘and’.

9 Supporting you child’s writing at home.
Encourage them to write in the cursive style. Make a story map. Dictate simple sentences including questions and statements using the weeks spellings. Encourage writing - shopping lists, book reviews, facts, diaries, recounts of visits and greetings cards. Keep writing at home short, as quality is important not quantity!
