1 Mechanical/Thermal Systems
LAT Planning Meeting Mechanical/Thermal Systems June 15, 2005 Marc Campell

2 Status SLAC Grid 2 is in inspection at Tapemation
Delivery to SLAC ECD: 7/1/05 Static Load Test awarded to National Test Systems (NTS), Santa Clarita, CA LAT Transporter RFQ issued 6/13/05 Continue investigation of refurbishing NRL container

3 Grid 2 Machining complete

4 Status (cont) Lockheed Martin - X-LAT
Completed X-LAT thermal cycling test Key is to demonstrate that there is no change in the X-LAT heat pipe bonds before and after the test. Ultrasonic inspection used to map disbonds Pre and post-test results 12 changes most approximately +/-0.1” (probe is .12” dia) 3 significant changes on heat pipe 0 .3 x 1.2 to .3 x1 .7 .3 x 1.2 to .3 x 1.7 .3 x .25 to .3 x 1.2 8 new one areas ~.2 x .2” Total disbonded area still within limits Next steps Proceed with Weight and CG measurements Re-measure this heat pipe 0 Need to return to MRB with final results summary and recommendation

5 Status (cont) Lockheed Martin - Radiators
Fabrication of both Radiator panel is complete less instrumentation installation. ECD 6/24 MLI design finalized (interfacing velcro locations) LM SCD to be revised Environmental test preps moving forward Vibration testing Acoustic and Sine vibe fixtures complete TRR held 6/14 9 action items – key ones are need more details from pre-test analysis and additional details into procedure Acoustic facility is being repaired (ECD 6/24) SBIRS still on Vibe table (ECD 6/24) Delta TRR to be held upon closure of action items, flight hardware complete and procedure released

6 Status (cont) Lockheed Martin – Radiators cont. Thermal Vacuum testing
Thermal vacuum test plan in review Test fixture design 90% complete MLI test blankets available SLAC provided EGSE console is 90% complete ATP for console in review

7 MECH Milestones

8 Threats to RFI LM X-LAT & Radiator delivery have no float. X-LAT
Conclusive story on disbonds Radiator Potential cost over runs in testing Vibration/Acoustic tests Instrumentation requirements to qualify Radiator interface Final test plan for thermal vacuum. Lots of test prep work to go here Timely resolution of test anomalies. Pre-ship reviews Closing all of the paperwork
