Junior research paper CMS Requirements

Requirements Each research paper must:
Be 6-8 pages in length (double-spaced) Have 5 reliable sources on a works cited page with at least one primary source (first hand account, research) Use MLA (Modern Language Association) to cite sources Have a visual that is either a bar graph or pie chart Have a persuasive thesis statement that seeks to prove/argue something

Sources Reliable sources can be found by using the following:
Library databases Respectable newspapers like The New York Times, The Huffington Post, The Washington Post, and The Charlotte Observer News websites like CNN, MSNBC, WSOCTV, ABC News Books You may NOT use: YouTube, Yahoo! Answers, Wikipedia, message boards, opinion based forums

Visual The data from your visual may come from another site OR can be data you collected by conducting a survey

Thesis An argumentative paper makes a claim about a topic and justifies this claim with specific evidence. The claim could be an opinion. The goal of the argumentative paper is to convince the audience that the claim is true based on the evidence provided. Your thesis should appear as the last sentence in your introduction Your thesis must be in the “should/should not because…” format and list three reasons to support your claim. For example: Testing cosmetics on animals should be banned because results are not reliable, animals are harmed or killed in the process, and there are new techniques available to test safety that do not involve animals.

Miscellaneous You may only select from the topics included in the handout Your senior project will include community service involvement OR involvement in a Hopewell club Your research paper counts as 20% of your2nd quarter grade Your paper will be uploaded to Google Drive
