What other functions can be made from
M3U5D2 Shift and Stretch Objective: Graph functions expressed symbolically and show key features of the graph, by hand in simple cases and using technology for more complicated cases.* AND Graph rational functions, identifying zeros when suitable factorizations are available, and showing end behavior. Essential Question: What other functions can be made from 𝑓(𝑥) = 𝟏 𝒙 ? What will their graphs look like?
3
In the upcoming problems, you will be given a graph or a description of a function and you will use your knowledge of 𝑓(𝑥) = 1 𝑥 to write an equation for the function without calculators. Once you have written the equation, you should use graphing technology to check your work and make adjustments to your equations, if necessary.

Now you’re ready to use this information to figure out how the graph of y = 1 𝑥 can be transformed.
As you answer the questions that follow, look for patterns that you can generalize to describe the transformations of y = 1 𝑥 . With your seat buddy, work #2&3. Check and discuss. With your seat buddy, work #4&5. Check
