Summarize “Changing Immigration Patterns” In 1965, President Johnson eliminated limits on non-European immigrants. Asians are the fastest growing group. Latin America is the largest source of immigrants. With the fall of communism, immigration from Eastern Europe has continued. Most are hardworking people who enrich our culture. Many Americans resent undocumented workers (those that come without legal permission). The attacks on 9-11 increased concerns about who was in our country. President Bush proposed an expanded “guest worker” program so that willing workers could be matched with employers who need workers.

Summarize “A Changing Population” Population has become more religiously diverse. The largest ethnic minority is Latino. Latinos continue to struggle..4 of 10 children live in poverty, higher unemployment rate than national average. Asian immigrants seemed to have more economic success due to their education levels.
Explain the history of immigration to America . America has always been a nation of immigrants. At first, immigrants came primarily from Western Europe. Then, many started coming from Eastern Europe. Many Asians came during the construction of the railroad. Now, the primary source of immigration is Latin America and Asia.

More women in the work place, but earning less than male counterparts. Native Americans suffer economic hardship.
What are some of the dangers of immigration that we have worried about from time to time. Claims are that immigrants will cost citizens jobs, they bring crime, they bring disease, they won’t learn English, they will be an economic burden, etc.
Summarize “Challenges for the Young and Looking Back and Ahead” Increased school violence, illegal drug use, steroid abuse. Despite problems there are shared American values: faith in democracy, respect for individual rights, tolerance for different views, and the opportunity to build a better future.
