Questions:
Why is the Middle Ages called the ‘Dark Ages”?
How is the fall of Rome going to affect society, and other aspects of life, during the Middle Ages?
Guiding Question(s): Why did the feudal system emerge in Europe? What is the connection between the feudal system and the manorial system? Who held supreme authority in the Christian church in most of Europe during the Middle Ages? What were the church’s sources of wealth in the Middle Ages? How was the church’s organization similar to that of a modern government?

Directions: Begin a new section of notes titled “High Middle Ages”. Copy the following terms:

Guiding Questions: Who had gained control of Jerusalem prior to the First Crusade? Why do you think Europeans took part in the Crusades? Who preserved the works of Greek and Roman philosophers? What were the elements of Gothic architecture? How did education change during the late Middle Ages?
