1 STORYBOARDING FOR CONTENT DEVELOPMENT

2 What is Storyboard? Storyboard is a sequence of documents with specification of content development done by the Subject Matter Expert (SME) or Storyboard Designer (SD) and Instructional Designer (ID) to communicate with the Multimedia Designer (MD), Graphic Designer (GD), Animators (AN) and Programmers (PG)

3 Slide Example

4 Storyboarding Process
Storyboarding process is the process of documenting for interactive multimedia production or often referred to as content development.

5 Storyboard It provides direction to the team who are responsible for producing the content, developing the media and programming the interactions. It is a mode of reference/communication within the team as well as with the client.

6 Storyboard Template

7 Storyboarding Prepare the content screen by screen.
Each slide should have 3-5 minutes learning materials. Refer to the design documents as a guideline. Intent – Learning objectives Content Activity Assessment Plan your content to be more learner oriented and give the ability for the learner to control the learning content.

8 Elements of Storyboard
Plain Text Text & Graphic Image / Diagram Animation / Interaction with Voice Over

9 Storyboard Structure Title of the screen Screen Area No of the screen
Animation description (step by step of the content appears on the screen) Screen Area Graphic description Voice over script and description

10 Content in Storyboard Each screen must have clear title.
Objectives of the lesson must be stated clearly. Use voice over to complement the content on the screen (its depend on the organization preference) Include some example with interactivity Instruction must be clear and can be understood by everyone.

11 Storyboarding Process
STEP 1 Identify the raw materials that we want to convert into storyboard. STEP 2 Chunk the materials in small pieces, divide module, chapters, sub-topics and slide/pages. STEP 3 Identify the elements of storyboard in the raw material. STEP 4 Brainstorming and post all ideas for each slides/pages. The ideas must be related to Learning Theories Select the best data

12 Storyboarding Process (cont.)
STEP 5 Design screen layout STEP 6 Sketch the storyboard on storyboard template. Include the animation flow. Voice-over scripts, instruction, etc. STEP 7 Review the content and script. STEP 8 All parties should agree on the storyboard. Development only begins upon approval by all parties.

13 Storyboarding Tips A sketch or drawing of the screen, use pencil to sketch. Color, placement and size of the graphics. Text based content should short and complete. Avoid information overload, Voice Over script (with exact pronunciations). Animations should help to convey information not to distract learning process. Video (if relevant and added value to the learning process. Audio / Background music (avoid if not necessary).

14 Storyboarding Tips (cont..)
Learner interaction. Use list/diagram instead of plain text. Have clear headings and good indent. Organize your storyboard by numbering them according to sequence. Leave some blank area (eye-rest-area) State navigation buttons (next, back, exit, music on/off)

15 Why Storyboard is Essential?
Makes the content development process easier and faster. Enable other multimedia specialists to continue with our idea in case the assigned one are not able to accomplish the whole task. Visually display information. Develop team consensus. Generate a plan of action.
