2 Gluing the foldable. Fold the subordinate conjunctions tab under the dependent clauses tab. Fold the clauses on the lines so that there is about two inches blank in the middle. Label that blank section CLAUSES

3 What is a clause? groups of words that contain a subject and a verb.
I am tired Because the game went into extra innings If the movie starts on time We can get popcorn

4 Independent Clauses A clause that makes a complete sentence on its own
Can stand alone Expresses a complete thought Is a simple sentence Examples: I love pie. The students sat quietly. Tigers are mammals.

5 Dependent Clauses (AKA Subordinate Clause)
part of a sentence that contains a subject and a predicate that CANNOT stand alone These don’t express a complete thought. Need to lean on an independent clause. Begin with a subordinating conjunction

6 Subordinating Conjunctions
after, as, because, before, even if, if, once, since, so that, than, that, though, unless, until, when, where, whereas, whether, while
