Economic Development Committee Recommendation Already discussed: Sports Fields concessions Topics: naming rights, advertising, concessions in other parks, tournaments, etc.

3 Concessions G & G Dogs @ Woodinville Sports Fields
Concessions at other parks Types of concessions

4 Advertising Naming rights In-Kind Advertising
Ads on furniture, buildings, fences, etc.

5 Tournaments One day or multi-day Brings in teams from out of the area
Space considerations What brings in revenue? Hotel stays Restaurants Retail shopping Transportation - ie Battle of Bothell - usually need multiple fields

6 Parks and Recreation Revenues
2011/2012 actual is Sports Fields rental and lighting fees. 2009/2010 includes recreation program, facility rental, and passive park rental fees. The revenues came in $15,000 over forecast. Budget was $265,000; actual was $280,000 Forecast for is $268,000

7 Tournaments - Challenges
Competing with other fields/jurisdictions Costs – increased traffic, limited parking, restroom facilities, increased maintenance costs Limited scheduling availability Inadequate for some adult tournaments Equipment needs – fencing Management - Bothell/Wellington Hills/high school - Increased use also increases our maintenance costs – Sports fields costs in 2011 were $274,000 - most of the times desirable for tournaments are already booked – we’re already bringing in revenue for regular uses - inadequate for some types of adult tournaments - additional equipment needs, ie fencing for softball tournaments - who manages? City not equipped to play a management role

8 Tournaments - Opportunities
Untapped sports and activities Cooperating with other fields/jurisdictions Economic benefits versus financial benefits Free times in July-August Celebrate Woodinville festival - Lacrosse is growing, cricket, softball - Bothell, Wellington Hills - Probably won’t see a financial boon to the City, maybe some increased revenue to businesses; feel good - Have availability on weekends in July and August – end of season for many sports, kids out of school, etc. - Currently charge same rate for any type of field use – should the rates be different for tournaments? Offer some kind of package deal?

9 For Discussion Should the City offer advertising and/or naming rights for park facilities? Should the City pursue more concessions operations? Should the City pursue/make accommodations for more sports tournaments?
