3 Candidate Activists Followers of a particular candidate who see the party as the means to elect their candidate Not concerned with the other operations of the party

4 Issue Activists Wishes to push the parties in a particular direction. Whether it’s on a single issue or a narrow range of issues. The party platform is an important battleground for them

6 Men in Politics 2004- The two parties were almost the same
1964- Men were twice as likely to be Democrats as Republicans

7 Women in Politics 1964 & Women favor the Democrats

1964 & Lower-income voters have consistently been more Democratic 1964 & Higher-income voters tend to be more in favor of the Republicans

9 Religion in Politics 1964- Protestants, Catholic, and Jewish all strongly supported Democrats 2004- Protestants were evenly divided Democratic numbers among Catholics had dropped significantly

10 Overall They are were more Democrats in 1964 then 2004

11 Keyterms Party registration- The act of declaring party affiliation; required by some states when one registers to vote
