1 MONDAY, APRIL 20th QW – Is censorship ever okay? Explain & justify.
Book censorship has been a controversial topic for decades.  Write an argumentative piece that argues in favor or against book censorship and support with evidence from sources provided.  Remember to acknowledge the other side and knock it down. Save your strongest evidence for the last. You may give examples from past and current events or issues to illustrate and clarify your position. 10 SENTENCE STRUCTURE ALL SOURCES ARE AVAILABLE ON:

5 Research Steps Step 1: Read through the question carefully. Make sure you know what the question is asking. Step 2: On your note paper, simplify what the question is asking you to do. Put it in your own words. Step 3: Circle (or make note) of the minimum amount of sources you need. Step 4: Take notes with each of the sources. Address the source’s main points. Step 5: How reliable is the source? Is it slanted in any way? Step 6: Choose the sources that you are most comfortable with. Step 7: In your source chart, copy your notes from the sources into each. Step 8: Now, look at the relationships of your sources. Do they agree with each other? Do they disagree?

9 WEDNESDAY Place your argumentative response into the inbox.
QW – Write about anything you want.  PEER EDITS Use the 10 sentence structure as your guide, and mark all the components on their paper. Make note of any missing pieces. Write a response of strengths and weaknesses at the bottom of their paper. Sign your name on the bottom of the paper.  When you get your paper back, correct your paper, etc. Turn in to the inbox. 11 THURSDAY Get a slip from the outbox of dystopia vs. utopia; please read and tape in.  QW – Which one is Fahrenheit 451? Give examples. Does it compare to anything we’ve read this year or something you have read on your own? Explain. Create a “T” chart (Dystopia/Utopia)

12 Utopias – Based on Underlying Philosophical Ideas
Economic utopias are generally against commerce and capitalism and call for equitable distribution of goods and work and abolition of money. Religious utopias attempt to establish communities of virtue. Scientific or technological utopias set in the future demonstrate the results of advanced scientific or technological changes. Feminist utopias explore changes in the idea of gender with single gender or single-sex societies.

Written Response – Is this a dystopian or utopian? Any connections to anything we’ve watched or read? Or today? Class discussion

21 OPTIONS  OR ONE-PAGER Create a children’s book over the first or second section using Book Creater (iBooks).  Make sure to include 2-3 elements of figurative language (metaphor, simile, alliteration, hyperbole, or personification). Make sure to illustrate whether this is a dystopia or utopia. Create a Mad Lips telling about the first or second section. Describe how Bradbury illustrates the future. Which parts are accurate? Which parts are incorrect? Remember to include 2-3 metaphors, similes, alliterations, hyperboles, or personification examples. Don’t just summarize! Create a Haiku Deck to illustrate the images you visualize when reading these sections. Pick a word or phrase that helps you see it and use those in your Haiku Deck. You should have 9 questions answered since we just finished the 3rd section of the novel. Begin filling out the character log.
