Political parties exist to get members of their party elected The United States has a 2 party system - This means they have to have ideas about as many political issues as possible to convince as many people as possible to vote for their candidates. - Most people do not agree with everything their political party stands for - People pick a handful of issues that are most important to them and vote for a party based on those issues - There is an increasing number of Americans that are remaining INDEPENDENT of any party.
