3 Mauryan important leaders
Chandragupta Maurya Chandragupta Maurya founded the Mauryan empire in India. Early in life, he became an adventurer and traveled throughout India. Ashoka Ashoka was one of the greatest monarchs in indian history. It is believed that he was a buddhist. He adopted an ethical system into his administration The first South Asian ruler to set up inscriptions, texts carved in stone that are publicly displayed. Ashoka stopped a revolt in Taxila. After that he soon conquered Kalinga Ruled empire by a large body of ruled bureaucrats

4 Key Events that shaped the civilization
*Chandragupta's son, Bindusara (fl. 298–273 BCE), inherited an enormous military force from his father including a secret service and office of naval affairs. During his reign from 297 to 274 BCE *Asoka (fl. 269–232 BCE), the grandson of Chandragupta, conquered the Kalinga kingdom along the eastern coast of India as far as the Godavari River. With these conquests, the Mauryan Empire included all of the subcontinent, except its southern tip, plus Nepal and a large part of Afghanistan. After capturing Kalinga, Ashoka became buddhist and lived ruling his empire skillfully after he died the empire pretty much went to crap

5 Cultural universals Government: Literature:
Chandragupta split his empire into fourths, at each one of these areas a ruler ruled as a prince. Literature: Kautilya wrote a rulers hand book called the “Arthasastra” it contained ideas and ways to hold and control an empire as a ruler. Ashoka is the most known ruler because during his rule he left behind inscriptions with writing that told about his rule and many archaeologists discovered some of these inscriptions

6 Other Rulers There were many kings part of the Maurya Dynasty that ruled the empire, those being: Chandragupta Maurya ( BCE) Bindusara Amitraghata (298–273 BCE) Ashoka (273–232 BCE) Dasharatha (232–224 BCE) Samprati (224–215 BCE) Shalishuka (215–202 BCE) Devavarman (202–195 BCE) Shatadhanvan (195–187 BCE)

7 The Fall of The Mauryans
After the death of Ashoka the empire was weakened and the following emperors had trouble controlling all the land that Ashoka had collected and eventually in 187 BCE the capital Pataliputra was captured by foreigners and the empire collapsed.

8 Mauryan empire Religion
The mauryan empire was mostly focused on practicing Buddhism later on he embraced jainism Chandragupta the establisher of the Mauryan empire was a buddhist Some of the other religions practiced is hinduism and jainism
