1 Session 4: Standards Roundtable
The Fully Networked Geneva International Motor Show Workshop March 2010 Session 4: Standards Roundtable Summary and next steps Bernard Dugerdil EMEA Standards & Strategy Senior Manager Freescale Semiconductor The Fully Networked Car Geneva, 3-4 March 2010

2 Highlights from ISO presentation: The Economic Benefits of Standards in the Automotive Industry: Results of an ISO Study Objectives of the ISO Methodology Measure the impact of standards on an organization Benefits of standards can be identified along the entire organization value chain and its external interfaces Provide clear criteria to assess the value of using standards Provide guidance when developing further studies to assess the benefits of using standards within an industry sector Projected standards impact on the automotive industry worldwide Contributing impact: %/sales USD bn The Fully Networked Car Geneva, 3-4 March 2010

3 Networked Vehicle is a critical case for convergence:
Highlights from ITU-T SG13 presentation: Networked Vehicle in NGN by Chae Sub Lee Networked Vehicle is a critical case for convergence: Service Platform for using communication capabilities Security ensure operation of NV in fully connected mode User convenience be part of an user premise Need collaboration and coordination The Fully Networked Car Geneva, 3-4 March 2010

4 Highlights from ITU-T SG16 presentation: Fully Networked Car in ITU-T SG 16 by Yushi Naito
ITU-T SG 16 will continue to develop multimedia standards for networked car applications as the cross-over area of CarCOM, Home Network and, potentially, the expected smart grid studies Ultimate target is the end-users’ satisfaction Coordination/harmonization among SDOs is encouraged The Fully Networked Car Geneva, 3-4 March 2010

5 Highlights from ISO TC204 presentation: ISO/TC204 OVERVIEW by Ryan D
Highlights from ISO TC204 presentation: ISO/TC204 OVERVIEW by Ryan D. Lamm 100 Standards/Technical Specification/ Technical Reports under development, 95 Published ISO TC204 Proposed Working Group 18 on Cooperative Systems is intended to mirror and monitor the activity going on in CEN TC278 WG16. The Fully Networked Car Geneva, 3-4 March 2010

6 E.C Mandate M/453: Deliver Harmonized EN (European Norm)
Highlights from CEN-ETSI-C2C presentation: Gérard SEGARRA, ETSI TC ITS WG1 Chairman, Member of C2C-CC Steering Committee Standardization focus on a Basic Set of Applications and its required supporting telecommunication functions E.C Mandate M/453: Deliver Harmonized EN (European Norm) Conformance & Interoperability testing Is a major issue to be considered C2C: Contribute to propose & develop standards at ETSI The Fully Networked Car Geneva, 3-4 March 2010

7 ETSI – CEN Recommendations
Need of a Public – Private Partnership for the development of standards through an efficient CEN – ETSI Co-operation. A required Minimum Set of Standards shall ensure interoperability across Europe. European Standardization shall be in line with the European co-operative system deployment strategy. International harmonization is required. But Europe shall be able to develop a consistent and stable offer to put in the balance. This does not preclude some early convergence work The Fully Networked Car Geneva, 3-4 March 2010

8 Who standardizes what for Electrical Vehicle
Highlights from IEC/TC69 presentation: Cyriacus Bleijs: Standards for safe and economic products Who standardizes what for Electrical Vehicle Fixed installations IEC 60364 Charging interface IEC (TC69) EV electrical aspects (if not charging) ISO TS22/SC21 Battery cells IEC SC21A, Battery assembly ISO TC22/SC21 Which charging plug should we use ? Propositions are treated in IEC SC23h (IEC ) The Fully Networked Car Geneva, 3-4 March 2010

9 Conclusions / Recommendations (1)
Single Worldwide EV charging plug is required: IEC & SAE must work together to standardize this plug. For EV and associated battery, ISO & IEC cooperation is working well. Must be continued and extended for other parts of EV For In-Vehicle architecture & Protocols a joint working group between ITU-T and ISO is wished For ITU-T, SG16 seems the right candidate For ISO, TC204 seems the right candidate As NGN will interface the vehicle to the telecommunication word (V2I to NGN or directly V to NGN) a better collaboration between ITU-T SG13 and ISO TC204 (and ETSI ITS) is wished. A common joint working group may be the right solution. The Fully Networked Car Geneva, 3-4 March 2010

10 Conclusions / Recommendations (2)
Each region has each own particularity and own agenda deployment (i.g. M/453 for Europe or V2V priority deployment for US in 2013), a close cooperation between regional SDO and ITU-T / ISO is required. Mechanisms to increase this cooperation must be defined (joint working groups, CTO group recommendations, GSC recommendations, Focus groups, ..) The Fully Networked Car Geneva, 3-4 March 2010
