3. 1st Grade Curriculum Grade level expectations (handout supplied):
Language Arts includes the areas of reading, writing, listening, viewing, speaking, language and literature
Math includes number sense concepts and operations, measurement, geometry and spatial sense, algebraic thinking, and data analysis and probability.
Social Studies includes history, geography, civics and government, and economics.
Science includes the nature of matter, energy, force and motion, process that shape the earth, earth and space, processes of life, and how living things interact with their environments.

Math: Four diagnostic assessments (Inventory, November, February, end of year).
Science: 1st semester assessment, 3rd
grading period, and end of year.
Social Studies: 1st and 2nd semester

70% or higher is considered a passing score on each assessment.

8. Physical Education Policy
“Physical Education” means the development or maintenance of skills related to strength, agility, flexibility, movement, stamina, including dance; the development of knowledge of skills requiring teamwork and fair play; the development of knowledge and skills regarding nutrition and physical fitness as part of a healthy lifestyle; and the development of knowledge of positive attitudes regarding sound nutrition and physical activity as a component of personal well-being.

9. Physical Education Policy Continued….
150 minutes of physical education has been mandated for grades K-5 by the Florida Department of Education.
Instruction may be provided by any instructional personnel designated by the school principal.
Physical education should not be confused with physical activity such as recess or free play, intramurals, or recreational endeavors.

10. Title 1 Compact
Part of our daily success as partners in education is to ensure that we work together to ensure our compact is honored.
Signed upon registration by parent/guardian, student, teacher and principal.
A copy of the compact that you signed will be given to you by your teacher as soon as it is signed by the teacher and principal.
Please refer to the example we have provided for you to read over for specific information about the compact.

11. Field Trips
Field trips are planned to extend and enhance classroom experiences.
In order for a student to be permitted on a field trip a signed permission form must be completed by a parent or guardian. Such forms are sent home by the teacher/teachers in charge of the field trip. A STUDENT MAY NOT ATTEND A FIELD TRIP WITHOUT A SIGNED PERMISSION FORM.

12. Field Trips
Payment for all field trips must be in cash or money orders. NO PERSONAL CHECKS WILL BE ACCEPTED.
There are no refunds for field trips that require a pre-payment (such as the King Center).

13. Field Trips
In accordance with the Elementary Handbook, students are required to follow school rules and guidelines while on a field trip, the same as in the classroom at school.
Students shall at all times, follow the instructions and directions of teachers, sponsors, or chaperones in charge of the field trip.
If a student misbehaves on a field trip, disciplinary action will be taken which may include a warning, phone call to a parent or administrator, and the possibility of suspension depending on the misbehavior.
We want all students to be able to attend field trips as we do value them as a very important part of the learning experience.

14. Volunteers Wanted!
In order to attend field trips and volunteer at school you must be registered as a volunteer in the computer. This a very simple form to fill out, and the front office staff will be more than happy to help you. You will need a picture identification, such as a drivers license, in order to fill out the form.
It takes from 3-8 weeks for a parent or guardian to get on the volunteer approval list, so we urge you to fill out the form and become a volunteer ASAP.
If you already are a volunteer we ask that when you are helping your child’s teacher, eating lunch with your child, or attending a class party that you sign into the computer system as a volunteer as this will help our school with volunteer hours.

16. Homework Policies A packet goes home in the red folders on Monday.
All homework packets should be returned in the red folder by Thursday, allowing Friday for any late work.
Students should be reading minutes a night in addition to their homework packets.
Please contact your child’s teacher if you have any concerns about your child’s homework.
