1 VOLLEYBALL

2 THE PLAYERS There must be six players on the court at all times.
The player in position ‘1’ can serve the ball from anywhere along the endline/baseline. Players must always rotate in a clockwise direction. Players may substitute between points if they inform the referee.

3 COURT LAYOUT

4 THE RULES The ball can be touched a maximum of three times before being returned over the net. Players on either side of the net are not allowed to touch it at any point during game play. Players are not allowed to step over centre line. If the ball hits the net but goes over, it is considered in play. If the ball lands on either the sidelines or the end lines it is considered ‘in’.

5 THE POINTS The first team to obtain 25 points is the winner.
A team must win the game by two points. The game is played using the rally point system – no matter which team serves the ball the one that successfully wins the rally gains a point.

6 SERVING The player in position ‘1’ will always serve the ball.
The player cannot step over the end line/baseline when serving. A player can choose to either serve underhand (see above picture) or overhand (see below picture). The serve must go over the net on the first attempt or the opposing team will gain a point, and will get to serve. If the ball hits the net on the serve but goes over, it is still in play. A serve that goes over the net and lands on the court without being touched by the opposing team is called an ‘ACE’.

7 PASS #1 THE VOLLEY Also known as setting the ball.
Extend your arms over your head. Position your hands so that you can see them above your forehead and create a triangle shape (see picture). Spread your feet shoulder width apart. Centre yourself under the ball and align the ball so it would land on your forehead. Push upwards, straightening your arms and legs as you let the ball go.

8 PASS #2 THE BUMP Start in ‘ready position’ with legs shoulder width apart and the body with a slight lean forward. Lock hands together and push forearms out creating a flat surface, or platform. Move to the ball so that it lands squarely on your forearms. Pass the ball by bending and extending your knees. Use your arms to give the ball direction, keeping your shoulders square towards your target.
