Welcome To Our 3rd Grade Classroom! Mrs. Rooney

2 It’s time to grab your clipboards!

3 A Little About Me This is 12th year teaching
and second year in third grade. I have a 2 year-old daughter, Chloe. I live with my daughter, husband, and dog in Suffern, NY. I love to teach!

4 Attendance It is important that your child comes to school every day, well rested, and ready to learn. The starting bell rings at 8:50 am. Attendance is due by 9:10. Regular attendance is critical for your child to achieve his/her highest potential. Academic learning takes place all day and students who arrive late or leave early miss valuable instructional time.

5 Report Card Grading & Behavior
Students are rewarded by earning CHOICES. We earn LINKS for great behavior and great choices! When our link chain reaches the floor, we have a party! Some of our choices include painting, extra recess, dance party, and much more! Students write numbers on their hw papers and classwork papers to show parents and I what they understand. -We are a Responsive Classroom! -We try to be proactive and not reactive. Report Card Grades 4= Exceeds current grade level expectations Consistently meets requirements for exceptional work. Demonstrates a high level of understanding. 3= Meets current grade level standards Consistently meets requirements for proficient work. Demonstrates acceptable level of knowledge and understanding. 2= Approaching grade level standards Meets some requirements for proficient work. Demonstrates some knowledge of and understanding. 1= Not meeting current grade level standards. Meets few requirements for proficient work. Demonstrates little knowledge an understanding .

6 Behavior/ Academic Rubrics
Rewards -We are a Responsive Classroom! -We try to be proactive and not reactive. -Good behavior is encouraged through structure, clear expectations, and engaging lessons. Students earn links for good behavior and good choices as a class. When we reach the end of our links, we get to vote on a special activity: extra recess, painting, choice time, etc. Students write numbers on their hw papers and classwork papers to show parents and I what they understand.

7 A Day in the Life of Your 3rd Grader
8:50- Students enter the building 9:00- Morning work/Write down homework 9:10- Morning Meeting/Grammar/Cursive/Spelling 9:55- Specials 10:35- 10:40- Snack 10:40- Guided Reading 11:20- ELA Writing/Computer Lab on A&D Days 12:00- ELA Modules 12:40- Recess/Lunch- We have an extra 10 minutes of recess! 1:30-Math 2:20- Science/Social Studies 2:50- Silent Reading *** Reading at home is very important, too!*** 3:05- Pack up/Clean up 3:10- Line up for buses While students copy their hw, I am checking for hw completing and signatures/ planner notes.

8 Math Our Math program consists of lessons from Engage NY, supplemental teacher created lessons, and supplemental materials and resources. Every lesson consists of hands- on learning, cooperative learning, direct instruction and independent work with support, as needed. Please help your child master multiplication and division facts. Flash cards work well! Parent tip sheets will go home for each Module.

11 Social Studies & Science
Get Ready to Travel Around the World! After learning key map skills our class will learn about all continents and oceans and make stops in several countries along the way. We will explore cultures, geography, and how the way of living in particular regions impact a person’s daily life. Science topics include: Ecosystems, Forces/Interactions, Inheritance/Variation of Traits, Weather/Climate

12 3rd Grade New York State Tests Computer- based ELA- Tuesday April 1th-8th Math-Tuesday April 30- May 7th Here’s what it will look like….

13 Good to Know Homework Policy Homework = Practice
Students receive homework Monday- Thursday. Please check your child’s homework and sign his/her agenda daily. We review the homework the next morning. Please help your child with homework if they are having trouble. I am the teacher in school and you are the teacher at home. Homework = Practice
