2 Appositives After a noun, you can add a descriptive or clarifying phrase, setting it off with commas. Example: An invasive species, one that is not native to a habitat or region, can interfere with the ecosystem.

3 Appositives: PRACTICE
Combine each of the following sentences below, using an appositive phrase: Hoverboards are like a cross between a Segway and a skateboard. They can also be dangerous. The American Dream is the hope for opportunity and success for immigrants. Unfortunately, this concept has become too expensive.

4 Adjectives Out of Order
When describing someone or something, simply move the adjective(s) from before a noun, placing them after the noun they modify instead. Example: Many refugees, tired and hungry, continue to cross the border each day in search of freedom.

5 Adjectives Out of Order: practice
Combine each of the sentences from the examples below, using adjectives out of order: Many brave and courageous women deserve to be recognized for their contributions to American history. Many greedy and self-seeking hoverboard companies ignore the many obvious safety concerns in hopes of profit.

6 Participles Add a verb ending with -ing (present) or -ed (past) that functions as an adjective, modifying a noun or pronoun. Place at the beginning, middle, or end of a sentence. Example: Littered across the streets, the amount of garbage and waste has defaced the most beautiful cities. Garbage and waste has littered the streets, changing the face of the most beautiful cities.

7 Participles: Practice
Combine each of the sentences from the examples below, using participles: Hoverboards have created concerns across the nation. Thus, they should be banned. Wilma Mankiller vowed to bring peace to the Cherokee nation. Therefore, she possessed the leadership qualities needed to be the face of the new ten dollar bill.
