French and Indian War By this time – 13 colonies or English colonies To the west – French settlements They begin to battle over territory - Pittsburgh French and Indians against the British and colonists American theatre of the Seven Years’ War (1756) Both end in 1763 – Treaty of Paris French land becomes British land Trade, land to settle

Proclamation of 1763 Settlement was prohibited beyond Appalachian Mountains – land acquired Avoiding further wars with Natives This created much resentment by colonists toward crown
