Disease: Alopecia areata Age: Adult (18-60) Notes: This 31-year-old man presented with subtotal alopecia of the head. No signs of inflammation are evident of the skin. Hair growth is evident in discrete areas. Eyebrows are also alopecic.

2 Allergic Contact Dermatitis
Slide #21, "0221-Allergic contact dermatitis-shoe" from Set #2 Disease: Allergic contact dermatitis-shoe Age: Unknown Notes: Allergic contact dermatitis of the foot. Patch testing examination showed an allergy to B-butyl-phenolformaldehyde resin, which was present in the shoes of this subject.

Disease: Tinea corporis Notes: Circular sharply marginated inflammatory lesions with raised edge on the buttocks with scaling. Some of these lesions are the result of single lesions which became confluent. Tricophyton rubrum was shown to be the etiologic agent.

Disease: Tinea corporis Age: Adolescent/Young Adult (11-18) Notes: This 17-year-old girl presented with confluent multiple plaques of the neck, resulting in a circular sharply marginated lesion with raised edge. Central skin shows erythematous papules and scales.

Slide #41, "0941-Toxic epidermal necrolysis (TEN), phenobarbital" from Set #9 Disease: Toxic epidermal necrolysis (TEN), phenobarbital Age: Child Notes: This 6-year-old boy developed a widespread blistering rash 4 weeks after commencing Phenobarbital for epilepsy. Mucous membrane involvement is seen and this is typical in TEN.

Age: Adult (18-60) Notes: The solitary dome-shaped tender lesion on the back of this 44-year-old woman, surmounted by a crateriform nodule with purulent areas, was accompanied by fever and malaise. The patient was affected by type-II diabetes over the past 3 years.

Disease: Verruca vulgaris Age: Child Notes: On the dorsum of the right hand of this 9-year-old child are multiple raised keratotic papules of different size. Other small papules present a diameter of a few mm and are pink in color. The largest papules are more than 1 cm in diameter and present a grayish tonality.

Crusts give the characteristic yellowish color similar to honey. The patient reported that the disease was accompanied by moderate itch.
